Digital Newspapers
Many of the Sweden's most prominent daily newspapers such as GP and Dagens Insdustri are published on the internet every day using Textalk's software. Our system has become standard for many other newspapers in Sweden and the rest of Europe.
Henryk Rubinstein, the CEO and founder of Textalk, created the world's first completely digital newspaper in 1979 together with GP and Chalmers University of Technology.
Digital Recycling
These days more or less all text media is saved in a digital format, which means that it can by 'recycled' for many different purposes such as web publishing.
Using TextArch, an archiving program for Quark XPress, it is easy to recycle texts. The program is configurable and can easily be modified to suit the specific needs of a newspaper's editorial staff. TextArch is currently used together with many different kinds of archiving systems, such as BRS, Affärsdata and digital newspapers for the visually impaired. Many European newspapers use TextArch.
TextArch connects separate blocks of text in QuarkXpress to create a logic unit. This means that the user is in charge of what each saved archive includes and the text included in each block. Once the decision of how the archive should be organized has been made, working with it is very simple.
Create an archive in 30 seconds!
It takes approximately 30 seconds to archive a page. You simply click on the blocks that you want included in your 'logical unit' and when all the desired blocks are marked you press the space bar to move on to marking the next 'logical unit.' When you have finsihed a page you press enter to automatically save the material on your local hard drive or on a network unit.
There are times when it is useful to add a description of the logical units (header, caption, sub-header etc). Using TextArch's program palette this is easily done: you simply give the article a name and then click on the block(s) of text that you want to go under that name.
